WHY DO SIT-UPS?
With classic sit-ups, you will mainly train:
- abs
And secondly train:
- oblique muscles
The main advantage by performing this training is that you will gain in endurance, by using no equipment, only your body weight!
If you have the choice between doing sit-ups or the abs training with pullups/dips bar (check: abs) and you seek greater strength, we strongly advice to spend more time on the abs training because the applied body weight during exercises will be higher than the one for sit-ups. However, as the proposed abs training is more difficult than sit-ups, you can start by doing sit-ups then after some level, you can switch to the abs training.
WHAT IF I DO BETWEEN 275 AND 299 SIT-UPS?
Do the level 21 of this training and repeat the last sub-level until you reach 300 sit-ups, see here.
WHAT IF I DO 300 SIT-UPS?
Now, the goal can be to keep this level as long as possible and even achieve higher levels. In order to do that, here is an example of program:
- Monday: do 300 sit-ups
- Wednesday: do the last sub-level of level 21, see here
- Friday: do as many sit-ups as possible (minimum: 300)
- Weekend: rest
Do not forget that sit-ups will mainly train abs. So we highly recommend to train the other parts of the body (by mixing force & endurance trainings) in order to avoid injuries due to an asymetrical body. You can check the other classic trainings proposed here, by classicfit.org.
WHAT IF I DO SIT-UPS JUST AFTER EATING?
Exercises immediately after a meal is not advised. The intensive work of the abdominal muscles can pinch the filled stomach and intestine, hinder digestion and cause nausea. It is best to wait at least an hour or two after a meal before beginning to exercise.
DO I REALLY NEED TO REST 1 DAY BETWEEN SUB-LEVELS/LEVELS?
As said in general FAQ here, you don't have to follow strictly the number of rest day, because it is just a suggestion. Besides, abs regenerate faster than other muscles after exercise. So for most people, 1 rest day is not required and you can train your abs almost every day (with at least 1 day rest in the week).
